The 2020 edition marked the beginning of what would later become Love & Hope International Film Festival - Barcelona.

Originally created under the name Hospitalet de Llobregat International Film Festival, this first edition was designed to welcome emerging and established filmmakers from around the world and offer them a space for cinema, networking, screenings, industry conversations, and creative exchange in the Barcelona area.

The festival was scheduled to take place from 23 November to 27 November 2020, with a Gala Night planned for 27 November 2020, where the winners would be announced.

​

However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions affecting cinemas, travel, public gatherings, and international events, the festival had to adapt to the reality of that moment. Instead of taking place in its full physical format, the 2020 edition was presented in a limited online format, with 12 participating films.

​

Although this first edition was smaller than originally planned, it became an important chapter in the festival’s history. It represented the love and passion that drive filmmakers to create, and the hope that carries us through the challenges of the industry.

​

Making films is never easy, especially during uncertain times. But the 2020 edition proved that cinema could continue, that stories could still be shared, and that filmmakers could still find a place to be seen.

​

Today, this edition remains part of the foundation and evolution of Love & Hope International Film Festival - Barcelona — a festival built to celebrate international cinema, support filmmakers, and honor stories created with passion, courage, love, and hope.

La edición 2020 marcó el inicio de lo que más adelante se convertiría en Love & Hope International Film Festival - Barcelona.

Creado originalmente bajo el nombre Hospitalet de Llobregat International Film Festival, esta primera edición nació con la intención de dar la bienvenida a cineastas emergentes y establecidos de todo el mundo, ofreciéndoles un espacio para el cine, el networking, las proyecciones, las conversaciones de industria y el intercambio creativo en el área de Barcelona.

El festival estaba programado para celebrarse del 23 de noviembre al 27 de noviembre de 2020, con una Gala de Premios prevista para el 27 de noviembre de 2020, donde se anunciarían los ganadores.

​

Sin embargo, debido a la pandemia global de COVID-19 y a las restricciones que afectaron a los cines, los viajes, los eventos públicos y las reuniones internacionales, el festival tuvo que adaptarse a la realidad de aquel momento. En lugar de celebrarse en su formato presencial completo, la edición 2020 se presentó en un formato online limitado, con 12 películas participantes.

Aunque esta primera edición fue más pequeña de lo previsto inicialmente, se convirtió en un capítulo importante dentro de la historia del festival. Representó el amor y la pasión que impulsan a los cineastas a crear, y la esperanza que nos ayuda a seguir adelante frente a los desafíos de la industria.

​

Hacer cine nunca es fácil, especialmente en tiempos de incertidumbre. Pero la edición 2020 demostró que el cine podía continuar, que las historias podían seguir compartiéndose y que los cineastas todavía podían encontrar un espacio para ser vistos.

Hoy, esta edición forma parte de la base y evolución de Love & Hope International Film Festival - Barcelona: un festival creado para celebrar el cine internacional, apoyar a los cineastas y honrar historias realizadas con pasión, valentía, amor y esperanza.
